There are two main culprits which contribute to the formation of sun spots: Sun exposure and increasing age. Also known as sun spots, liver spots and brown spots, these spots are a result of prolonged sun exposure. They can appear on your face, hands, or any part of the body exposed to the sun. As we age, our skin becomes subjected to more and more cumulative sun damage over time, increasing the liklihood that sun spots will form.

Our skin has melanin pigment that absorbs sunlight and helps naturally protect our skin from UV rays. But as we age, our skin's natural ability to fend off UV rays from the sun begins to diminish, so we end up seeing the development of sun spots. The downside is that sun spots do not go away on their own. In fact, without treatment, they may darken and may even become larger.
